Had an interesting conversation at work with my coworker. He asked me what will be considered “classic” music when we get older. We have classic rock artists like zepplin and pink floyd and hip hop acts like run dmc, kurtis blow, and BDP but what about twenty years in the future? Who from our generation of music now will be considered classic then? Can you imagine when we get older, say 40s-50s and we turn on the radio and listen to classic hits of the 90s, ’00s, ’10s, the music that will play? The 70s had disco, are we going to be stuck with dubstep as classic dance music? It’s frightening to grasp the notion that i can only grow older and that the music i enjoy will never be as it was. All i can do is hope for more dope artists to be brought to my attention as i try to emulate the music i love and contribute to the culture and pray my children listen to the music i listen to.
